Maruti Suzuki India has launched the second-gen Celerio, with prices ranging from Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 6.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Celerio is based on the carmaker’s Heartect platform that also underpins other popular models, such as the Wagon R. The new Celerio is larger, better equipped and more fuel efficient than its predecessor and is powered by a new 1.0-litre petrol engine.

Maruti is offering the new Celerio in four trims – LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI+. It comes with a sole petrol engine and while the manual gearbox is standard on all four trims, the AMT gearbox is available on the top three. In all, there are seven variants to choose from.

As for colour options, the new Celerio will be offered with a choice of six monotone shades to choose from – Arctic White, Silky Silver, Glistening Grey, Solid Fire Red, Speedy Blue and Caffeine Brown.

2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio: engine and specs
The Celerio is powered by Maruti’s new-gen K10C engine. Notably, this engine features DualJet technology and idle start/stop system, which makes the Celerio one of the most fuel-efficient petrol cars on sale in the market. In fact, Maruti is claiming a fuel economy of 25.24kpl (LXi, VXi, ZXi) for the manual and 26.68kpl (VXi) for the AMT. The ZXi+ manual is claimed to deliver a lower 24.97kpl, with the ZXi AMT and ZXi+ AMT said to return a claimed 26kpl.
The 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated unit produces 67hp and 89Nm of peak torque – down 1hp and 1Nm over the outgoing model. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, with the option of a 5-speed AMT unit available from the VXi trim.
2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio: rivals
The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio goes up against the Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and Datsun Go. At its current pricing, the new Celerio is also slightly more expensive than its sibling, the Wagon R, prices for which range from Rs 4.93 to 6.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
