We were the first to tell you in July that the Vitara Brezza would be one of the Maruti Suzuki models to get a major update. Fast forward to November and the first pictures of the new car being readied for launch have emerged. Below is a list of every significant change expected on the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
2022 Maruti Brezza: likely to drop 'Vitara' prefix
Sources tell us that Maruti will drop the 'Vitara' prefix from the branding for its compact SUV and the model will just be called the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The carmaker already has the larger Vitara SUV on sale overseas, and we are told that removing the prefix from the Brezza's name is to distance it from the former – which could be headed to India in its next generation.
2022 Maruti Brezza: major exterior styling changes
The Vitara Brezza in its current avatar has been on sale for half a decade now and Maruti Suzuki has put in considerable effort to update the looks. While ‘soft-parts’ are regularly updated with facelifts, the 2022 Brezza will also get new body panels and sheet-metal changes.
Up front, the fenders and bonnet are all new, with the latter sporting a flatter design with almost no creases, allowing the clamshell design to stand out. Below, the headlamps and grille are placed together to form a single unit, with some matte black elements cleverly used in between.
The narrow grille is slot-like and two chrome strips surround the large Suzuki Logo. The front bumper still gets the integrated ‘bull-bar’ in black, but what’s interesting is that it also gets what look like a pair of enlarged endplates at either end merging with the wheel arches.
There aren’t many changes on the sides as the bodyshell of the SUV is the same structure as the outgoing model. The new Brezza does seem to have fresh body cladding around its wheel arches and doors and what we can also confirm is that the model will come with a sunroof on some variants – a feature that was sorely missed on the earlier version.
At the rear, the wraparound tail-lamps now extend on to the altered tailgate. The number plate housing has been shifted below the lamps with Brezza written in large letters across the rear. The rear bumper is also fresh and gets a black insert with prominent silver accents on the faux skid plate to give it a rugged look.
2022 Maruti Brezza: new interior and longer features list
The new Brezza and the upcoming Baleno will have many parts in common, especially on the interior, which means the former could get a major refresh. The dashboard, instrument cluster, steering wheel, control stalks and the all-new infotainment system with a free-standing touchscreen unit will likely be shared between both models. The car will also get connected tech, as can be seen from the SOS phone call option inside the instrument cluster. The new pop-up screen, with its shortcut buttons at the bottom, could mean that the Brezza could also feature Maruti’s new digital architecture.
2022 Maruti Brezza: platform to remain the same
The outgoing Vitara Brezza is based on the Suzuki Global C platform which also underpins the S-Cross. The 2022 Brezza will continue to sit on the same underpinnings and come with Maruti Suzuki's Smart Hybrid fuel saving tech. Higher end versions will also get paddle shifters.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza: launch timeline for India
As mentioned before, Maruti has a slew of updated models lined up, and of the long list, the Celerio recently made a market debut. Models like the XL6 and the Baleno are also expected to be refreshed and these will launch in the first half of next year. Sources tell us that the Brezza will see a market launch by July-August, followed by an all-new Alto, that could launch late next year.
