Two-wheeler sales drop by 26% in October

Hero MotoCorp: 5,27,779 units / -33 percent
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India: 3,94,623 units / -20 percent
TVS Motor Company: 2,58,777 units / -14 percent
Bajaj Auto: 198,738 units / -26 percent
The news is not good for the two-wheeler industry. In October 2021, as per sales data accumulated from six major OEMs, a total of 14,77,313 units were sold, down a substantial 26 % year on year (October 2020: 19,85,690). Month-on-month growth was a marginal uptick of just one percent.
FY2021 saw the electric two-wheeler sales decline marginally by 5.4% from 152,000 units in FY2020 to 143,837 units in FY2021 due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, sales of High speed (HS) E2W (models with speed >25km/hr) witnessed a YoY increase of 47%. Established players such as Hero Electric and Okinawa commanded over 53% of the market share for HS E2Ws in FY2021. Budding players such as Ather, Revolt and Pure EV too increased their respective shares in the market

October car sales down 21 percent compared to last year
New car sales in October have turned out to be quite underwhelming. Just when things were improving for passenger vehicle (PV) manufacturers in India, the ongoing shortage of semiconductors has proven to be a major spoilsport, with some leading carmakers being impacted. And all this is happening just when the festive season has opened and consumers are willing to spend once again.
- October saw new car sales of 2,58,774 units
- Maruti and Hyundai faced the biggest percentage decline in sales
- With 33,925 units sold, Tata was snapping at the heels of Hyundai (37,021 units) in October

Tata: 33,925 units (+43.6 percent)
Mahindra: 20,130 units (+8.1 percent)
Kia: 16,331 units (-22.3 percent)
Toyota: 12,440 units (+0.5 percent)
Renault: 8,910 units (-19 percent)
Honda: 8,108 units (-25.2 percent)
Nissan: 3,913 units (+254 percent)
Volkswagen: 3,077 units (+49.8 percent)
Skoda: 3,065 units (+115.7 percent)
MG: 2,863 units (-23.7 percent)
Commercial Vehicles (CV's) State-wise & Maker (Manufacturer / OEM) wise
TATA posted a growth of 3 per cent. Total Commercial Vehicle sales including domestic sales and export, stood at 33,674 units against 28,472 units same month corresponding year. It registered a growth of 1 per cent.
Total MHCVs sale in October 2021 including M&HCV Truck, Buses and International Business stood at 8,788 units, compared to 5,818 units in October 2020
Mahindra Auto sells 41908 vehicles in October 2021; Utility Vehicles register a growth of 9%

The growing electric vehicle market in the country received a festive boost in October with the electric two- and three-wheeler segments clocking the highest-ever monthly sales.
Overall, registered EV sales saw a big surge in October, clocking 38,170 units, signifying a month-on-month increase of 11 per cent and year-on-year jump of 250 per cent. Total EV sales crossed 30,000 units mark for the second month in a row
