Honda has finally showcased its future mid-size SUV in concept form at the GIIAS 2021 in Indonesia. The Honda RS concept previews a future Creta rival that could see light of day in the coming months.
New Honda RS concept: Design
The new Honda RS concept SUV carries latest styling cues from other newer Honda SUVs like the bigger HR-V and also the recently unveiled BR-V to some extent. The RS concept previews a future five-seat SUV that will sit below the Honda HR-V in the brand's global line-up. Upfront the new RS concept gets stylish angular wraparound headlamps that are quite similar to the BR-V and the City. The grille is neatly blended in the front bumper that features a simple design with a wide airdam upfront, a faux skidplate and also vertical slats for the foglamps.
The overall design of the RS concept SUV is more of a coupe SUV with tapering roofline and an angular tailgate design. The SUV concept features a contrast roof. On the sides, it gets chunky body cladding on the lower doors and the wheelarches that house large alloy wheels finished in matte black shade. At the back the SUV features slim horizontally positioned LED taillamps that are connected with a faux light bar. The rear bumper is large and houses the license plate enclosure and also a faux skid plate.
Honda has not announced engine or powertrain details for the RS concept SUV as of now. However, we are told that the production spec SUV will come with same powertrain options as the City sold overseas which would include a 1.5-liter petrol and also a 1.5-liter petrol with Honda's e:HEV mild hybrid technology.
Will it come to India?
Honda has confirmed that it is working on an India-specific SUV. There are not many details available on this model however as mentioned by us before, this new SUV for India will also share its underpinnings with the City sedan and will be a rival to the Creta and Seltos here.
The Honda RS SUV previewed by the Honda concept shown today at Indonesia seems to have most of the ingredients to be the midsize SUV for India.
