We had previously reported that Hyundai was readying an all-new MPV to take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in emerging markets. Now, images of a test mule provide an early glance at the upcoming people mover ahead of its expected debut in 2022 badged the Stargazer.

Hyundai Stargazer MPV: the design
Set to be the sister model of the recently revealed Kia Carens, Hyundai, in comparison, has gone with a more traditional people mover design. The images reveal an MPV with a cab-forward design and tear-drop profile which could hint towards a spacious interior.
Up front, the MPV gets a similar design as the larger Staria MPV and its split headlamp design with high-set LED daytime running lamps sitting on the nose and the main light cluster positioned lower on the bumper. Compared to newer Hyundais, one will also notice that the Stargazer seems to miss out on Hyundai's new parametric grille – a design seen on the new Elantra, Tucson and the recently revealed facelifted Creta.
In profile, there is no mistaking it as anything but an MPV, with its shallow nose, curved roof and rising window line. Another design element is the squared-out wheel arches and a prominent shoulder line that seems to extend from the front fenders.
Round the back, the tailgate seems to house a large hexagonal windshield. The tail-lamps are triangular vertically positioned units – a design similar to the company’s small Bayon SUV – with small extensions onto the boot-lid that feature T-shaped LED elements.
Hyundai Stargazer MPV: expected engine line-up
As with the Carens, one can expect the Stargazer to share its engine line-up with the Creta. Expect the MPV to debut with the 1.5-litre petrol engine when it is revealed to the public for the first time in Indonesia. One can expect other engine options, including a diesel, to join the line-up as the model is introduced in other markets.
Hyundai Stargazer MPV debut
As we've said above, the Stargazer is expected to make its public debut in Indonesia before being introduced in other emerging markets in the ensuing months. The MPV will go up against the likes of the Suzuki Ertiga and XL7, and Honda Mobilio.
Being a major market for MPVs, Indonesia will also get the recently revealed Kia Carens following its India launch.
Coming to the Indian market, Hyundai has not confirmed if this new MPV will come here, although with its sister model, the Carens, is set to launch next year. The Stargazer could also make its way to India sometime in the future.
