Toyota Fortuner Commander: what’s different?
Compared to the standard Fortuner, the Commander gets a number of small cosmetic tweaks. Starting from the front, the silver and chrome insets on the bumpers and skid plate are finished in black. Moving further back, the Fortuner Commander sits on the same alloys as the Legender with the roof also finished in a contrasting shade of black.
Round the back, the chrome detailing between the tail-lamps is also blacked out.
Inside, the Fortuner Commander gets a dual-tone dark red and black leather upholstery – similar to the India-spec Fortuner Legender, though the seats get more subtle inserts.
The Fortuner Commander also gets some additional features over the standard SUV including a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor and a rear cross-traffic alert.
Toyota Fortuner Commander: changes under the skin
Toyota has made no changes to the engine and gearbox, with the Fortuner Commander available with a 150hp, 2.4-litre diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The Fortuner in international markets is available with both 2.4 and 2.8-litre diesel engines, though we only get the more powerful 2.8 diesel in the India-spec model.
Toyota though, has tweaked the suspension on the special edition model and claims that it offers improved ride quality as compared to the regular Fortuner.
Toyota India line-up
Toyota has offered special editions based on the Fortuner in the past, although there is no news if we will get this special edition here. Toyota is currently expected to launch facelifted versions of the Glanza and Urban Cruiser, which are expected to arrive following the launch of their Maruti siblings. Also on the cards is Toyota's new midsize SUV.
