Tata Nexon EV Max: bigger battery, more range
First up, the Nexon EV Max will get a bigger battery, and we can confirm that it will be a 40kWh unit. To accommodate the larger battery pack, Tata Motors will modify the Nexon EV’s floor plan, and the boot space is also likely to be sacrificed. Additionally, the motor could also have more power and torque.
Thanks to the bigger battery, the Nexon EV Max will have a significantly higher range over the current version's ARAI-claimed 312km figure. Sources tell us that the Nexon EV Max could even have a claimed range of 400km in the official test cycle. This could translate to a real world range of around 320km for the Nexon EV Max. For reference, in our tests of the existing Nexon EV, we managed a real-world range of 200-220km on a single charge.
Tata Nexon EV Max: could get more powerful charger for faster charging
As reported by us earlier, the Nexon EV Max will come with a more powerful 6.6kW AC charger as opposed to the 3.3kW AC charger in the standard car, which takes approximately 10 hours to charge the battery. Tata could be offering the more powerful charger as an option to help the larger battery in the long-range Nexon EV charge faster, although the 3.3kW AC charger is expected to be retained as well.
The new Nexon EV Max could also get selectable regen modes, allowing drivers to adjust the intensity of regenerative braking, which, in turn, improves range. While the current Nexon EV standard too comes with variable regen, it is mild and non-adjustable.
While the SUV is expected to look identical to the standard Nexon, save for a few additional badges, it will get more comfort and convenience features like cruise control, ventilated seats and a park mode. Tata could also add an air purifier to the equipment list. On the safety front, the Nexon EV Max may also get Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
On the standard Nexon, the brand had recently introduced added equipment like an air-purifier, ventilated seats and auto-dimming mirrors to the Nexon range. Additionally, the Nexon is also offered with a Royal Blue paint shade.
Tata Nexon EV Max: will sit at the top of the Nexon EV line-up
The Nexon EV Max will cost around Rs 3 lakh-4 lakh more than the standard range top-spec variant. Dealer sources tell us that the on-road price for the Nexon EV Max will be around Rs 20 lakh. Tata Motors will continue to offer the current model alongside the Nexon EV Max to give buyers more choice and offer a wider range of variants in the Nexon EV line-up.
