Francesco Bagnaia continues clawing his way back into championship contention after winning the British GP. There was a gap of only 0.614 secs between the three podium finishers after 20 laps of racing at Silverstone, with Maverick Vinales and Jack Miller taking second and third places, respectively.
- Bagnaia continues his race win streak
- Pole-sitter Zarco out on lap 12
- Quartararo leads championship by 22 points
Double podium for Ducati
Polesitter Johann Zarco had a good shot at finally clinching his maiden MotoGP victory. But chances of that were washed away when he crashed on lap 5.
Bagnaia took the lead from Alex Rins on lap 12 and Miller made it a Ducati factory top two on lap 14. But Vinales overtook Rins on lap 17 and Miller on lap 18 to secure second place. The Aprilia Racing rider made a last attempt for the win on the penultimate lap but could not make the move last for long and had to settle for second.
With this, Bagnaia is now 49 points behind reigning world champion and current championship leader Fabio Quartararo. The Ducati rider has now scored four wins in the last seven races, but he's faced a challenging time with retirements in the remaining three.
Quartararo eighth after long-lap penalty
Gresini Racing's Enea Bastianini was fourth, followed by Pramac's Jorge Martin, KTM's Miguel Oliveira and Suzuki's Alex Rins. Quartararo had to serve a long-lap penalty in Silverstone, handed to him after he collided with chief title rival Aleix Espargaro in Assen, but managed to finish eighth, just ahead of the latter.
Marco Bezzecchi completed the top 10 for Mooney VR46 Racing Team.
2022 MotoGP Championship standings
Quartararo still leads the championship by 22 points from Espargaro. Bagnaia has worked back to keep himself in title contention with a string of race wins recently. He's now 27 points behind Espargaro and 49 points behind Quartararo.
