SUVs by supercar manufacturers is becoming a common trend, and the latest entrant in the super SUV segment is the Ferrari Purosangue. Unveiled earlier this week, the Italian SUV is powered by a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12, while most of its rivals use a twin-turbocharged V8 engine. 

The Ferrari Purosangue will launch in India in the latter part of 2023 and will rival the Lamborghini Urus Performante, Bentley Bentayga Speed, Aston Martin DBX 707 and Maserati Levante Trofeo. Of these, only the Maserati super SUV is currently available in India. 

We evaluate how the Ferrari fares on paper against its rivals in terms of size, powertrains and performance.

The Ferrari Purosangue measures 4,972mm in length, 2,028mm in width and 1,586mm in height, which makes it the most compact in the super SUV segment. Despite this, it has the second longest wheelbase here, trailing the Aston Martin DBX 707 by 42mm. 

Bentley Bentayga Speed is the longest super SUV here, at 5,144mm, but has the shortest wheelbase of all at 2,295mm. The Bentley is also the widest and tallest in the segment, measuring 2,222mm and 1,728mm, respectively. 

The Ferrari is the only super SUV to use a staggered wheel size – 22-inch at the front and 23-inch at the rear. While the Lamborghini Urus Performante and Aston Martin DBX 707 use 22-inch wheels as standard, they are also available with 23-inch wheels as an option. Similarly, the Bentayga and the Levante Trofeo have 21-inch wheels as standard and get 22-inch wheels as an option.

The Purosangue is the only vehicle in the segment to use a naturally aspirated engine, a 6.5-litre V12, while all others use either a twin-turbocharged V8 or W12. The Ferrari also has the biggest engine, measuring 6,496cc, closely followed by the Bentley which uses a 5,998cc twin-turbo W12. 

While the Bentayga Speed and DBX707 make the most torque, 900Nm each, followed by the Urus Performante which produces 850Nm. The Purosangue makes the least amount of torque, at 716Nm, while the Maserati makes 730Nm. 

The Ferrari makes the most power – 725hp – closely followed by the DBX707, which has 707hp. Trailing them are Urus Performante, Bentayga Speed and Levante Trofeo with 666hp, 635hp and 580hp, respectively. 

The Purosangue is also the only one in the super SUV segment to use a dual-clutch transmission and rear-biased all-wheel drive layout. The Aston Martin is the only one to use a 9-speed gearbox, whereas all others have an 8-speed configuration and all-wheel drive.

The Purosangue is the fastest of the lot, as it can achieve a claimed top speed of 312kph. It is closely followed by the DBX707 which can reach 310kph (claimed). The Urus Performante and Bentayga Speed’s claimed top speed is tied at 306kph each, while the Levante Trofeo is the slowest of the lot, achieving only 302kph (claimed). 

On the other hand, the Aston Martin is the quickest to achieve 0-100kph in a claimed 3.1 seconds, while the Ferrari and Lamborghini SUVs are tied at a claimed time of 3.3 seconds. The Bentayga Speed and Levante Trofeo can sprint from 0-100 kph in a claimed 3.9 seconds and 4.1 seconds, respectively, making them the slowest of the lot.
