Yamaha Aerox based Augur scooter revealed

Yamaha Augur launched overseas, gets same engine as Aerox.

Yamaha has launched a new scooter in Taiwan called the Augur. This scooter is interesting because it is based on a similar platform as the Yamaha Aerox 155, but has a lot more to offer.

  1. Uses same liquid cooled 155cc engine as the Yamaha Aerox
  2. Aggressive, futuristic styling
  3.  Packs advanced  features like TFT dash, traction control

Yamaha Aerox-based Augur scooter: details

The primary similarity to the Yamaha Aerox on sale in India is in the liquid cooled 155cc engine. The Yamaha Taiwan website doesn’t mention power or torque figures, but it shouldn’t be too different to the 15hp and 13.9Nm in the India-spec Aerox

Where the Yamaha Augur deviates from the Aerox is in the fact that it gets a flat floor board instead of the central spine in the Aerox. It also has a larger 6.1-litre fuel tank against the Aerox’s 5.5-litre unit. The 132kg Augur is 6 kilos heavier than the Aerox.

The biggest difference, though, is in the Augur’s futuristic, almost alien-like styling dominated by a central LED headlamp that looks like it came off a Kawasaki H2 superbike. The headlamp also has a cornering function and it even lets the user switch between pure white light or a warmer yellow colour temperature.

Other premium features include a 4.3-inch TFT display, bluetooth connectivity and a fully keyless functionality. The safety net is high too, with a traction control system and ABS, although the website doesn’t confirm whether this is a single or dual channel system. Unlike the Aerox, the Augur gets a rear disc brake, so dual channel ABS is a possibility.

The Yamaha Augur scooter is clearly positioned higher than the likes of the Rs 1.4 lakh Aerox and if Yamaha does intend to bring it here, you could be looking at an ex-showroom price of around Rs 1.6- Rs 1.8 lakh, if not more.
