Mini will launch a next-generation version of its five-door Cooper hatchback, boss Stefanie Wurst has confirmed, as part of a “simple” lineup of core models. The BMW-owned brand is readying a major brand overhaul to its entire lineup, and that includes the recently revealed Mini Cooper 3-door hatchback, which will have both electric and petrol powertrains. While Mini had not confirmed a five-door version of the iconic hatchback, suggesting that it could be replaced by the yet-to-be revealed Aceman EV SUV, that is not the case anymore.

At the ongoing Munich motor show, when asked by our sister publication Autocar UK about a potential future expansion of the Mini lineup, Wurst said, “We have so much to do with the roll-out of the family we’ve just announced. The Aceman is still missing, the John Cooper Works variations are all to come, we only speak about the three-door, but we actually have a five-door coming, and we have a convertible as well.”
The new-gen Mini EV and ICE vehicles sit on completely different and dedicated platforms, and this is also likely to be adopted for this new Mini Cooper five-door. The John Cooper Works variants of the Mini three-door hatch have been confirmed to make their debut in 2025. John Cooper Works variants may be introduced for the five-door hatch as well.
Wurst added that the Mini range wouldn’t dramatically expand in the future, describing plans for a production version of the Mini Urbanaut MPV, shown at the 2021 Munich show, as “in the freezer”.
2024 Mini India lineup
Currently the brand is selling the three-door Cooper hatch and the Countryman SUV here in India, in both diesel and petrol guises. The new Mini Cooper EV three-door will come to India next year, and the five-door version is likely to follow, though there is no confirmation from the brand yet.
