Jeep India will soon be expanding the Compass SUV line-up – the brand will introduce more affordable 2WD variants of the Compass diesel automatic with price announcement slated for September 16. Along with introducing new 2WD automatic variants, the entire Jeep Compass line-up will get a new grille and alloy wheel designs.

The Jeep Compass range in India is currently diesel-only, with automatic gearbox limited to just the 4x4 variants. The 1.4-liter turbo petrol engine has been shelved, thanks to the stringent BS6 Stage II norms. The Compass petrol will make a comeback in future. Deletion of petrol engine line-up has pushed the Compass at a higher pricing bracket and more so for the Compass automatic which so far is available only on the top two variants with prices starting upwards of Rs 29 lakh (ex-showroom). Adding affordable 2WD automatic line-up to the Compass definitely make the SUV more accessible to customers looking for a Compass with an automatic gearbox but do not require 4WD gear.
Jeep Compass 2WD automatic to be sold in five variants
As far as variants go, the updated Jeep Compass range will start from Compass Sport which will be sold with a standard 2WD manual powertrain and will continue to serve as an entry-point in the Compass line-up.
Next, a new Compass Longitude variant will join the line-up and will come with 2WD MT and also get the 9-speed automatic gearbox making it the entry-point for the Compass automatic range. Sources tell us that this variant with automatic gearbox will be priced at around Rs 27 lakh, on road. Feature list for this variant has not been revealed yet.
A new Jeep Compass Longitude+ variant will sit above the Jeep Compass Longitude and will get a panoramic sunroof and wireless charging in addition to all features available on the Jeep Compass Longitude.
The new Compass Limited variant will sit above the Compass Longitude +. There will also be a Jeep Compass Limited Black Shark edition which will essentially have all the goodies available on the Compass Limited but will come with all black interior and black alloy wheels. The Jeep Compass Limited will come with a new grille design with chrome bits.
Finally, the Compass Model S variant will continue to sit at the top of the line-up. It will also get wireless charging and also come with an option of a 2WD automatic along with the existing 4WD automatic powertrain.
Updated Jeep Compass booking and delivery details
We are told that some dealers are accepting unofficial bookings for the updated Compass line-up. Expect more details to be revealed at launch. Deliveries are likely to commence by end of this month or early next month.
