Toyota Land Cruiser Se design: previews future Urban SUV

Toyota has been expanding its Century, Crown and Land Cruiser line-up, and even showed the all-new Land Crusier Prado earlier this year, which will be sold as the Land Cruiser 250 in North America. Now, the brand has previewed a futuristic born EV concept of the Land Cruiser SUV.

This striking concept is essentially a rakish, futuristic three-row SUV whose design represents a departure from the Land Cruiser nameplate. The new Land Cruiser Se EV concept clearly places more emphasis on aerodynamic efficiency and is defined by cues that bring it in line with Toyota's new-age design language.

The Land Cruiser Se gets an angled bonnet and heavily sculpted sides, which are are the most obvious departures from other Land Cruiser models, while the slimline wraparound light bars, rear-view cameras and low-profile tyres hint at a more overtly luxurious billing.

Various cues – like the creased haunches, kinked window line and contrasting lower trim – look to be shared with the "lifestyle"-oriented FT-3E SUV concept Toyota previewed last week, suggesting that the two will be technical siblings with shared styling cues, interior arrangements and performance statistics.

Toyota Land Cruiser Se dimensions, production

The Land Cruiser Se concept is 5,150mm long, 1,990mm wide and 1,705mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,050mm – making it comparable to today's full-sized Land Cruiser SUVs sold globally.

Along with the styling, the Land Cruiser Se concept ditches the ladder frame platform for a more conventional monocoque – presumably based around Toyota's next-generation EV architecture – that's said to facilitate "highly responsive handling and confidence in tackling tough terrain".

Toyota's Tokyo show stand is a look at its next-generation line-up of electric cars, arriving from 2026, and it is expected that the Land Cruiser Se, FT-SE and FT-3E will evolve into production cars that form a part of this range.

Toyota says the seven-seater concept "broadens the Land Cruiser brand's appeal" and "caters to the world's diverse needs", emphasising that it can drive quietly and comfortably in urban areas and "other on-road situations".

Expect more details on the Land Cruiser Se concept to be revealed at the event which starts in the coming days.
