2024 Hyundai Creta facelift front action, mileage

Hyundai India has launched the Creta facelift at Rs 11 lakh, and has also revealed fuel efficiency figures for all five powertrain options. The Creta continues with the 115hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine – both get a 6-speed manual as standard, but the petrol and diesel also get a CVT or torque converter option, respectively. The turbo-petrol makes a comeback, albeit in 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine guise, which is available only with a 7-speed DCT.

  1. Creta 1.5 turbo gets an ARAI-rated 18.4kpl
  2. Creta petrol-MT and CVT figures are 17.4kpl and 17.7kpl, respectively
  3. Creta diesel-MT and AT rated at 21.8kpl and 19.1kpl, respectively

Hyundai Creta facelift vs rivals: fuel efficiency

2024 Hyundai Creta petrol vs rivals: mileage
Creta 1.5P Seltos 1.5P Elevate 1.5P Grand Vitara 1.5P Hyryder 1.5P Taigun 1.0T Kushaq 1.0T
Manual 17.4kpl 17.0kpl 15.31kpl 21.11kpl (19.38kpl AWD) 21.12kpl (19.39kpl AWD) 19.87kpl 19.76kpl
Automatic 17.7kpl 17.7kpl 16.92kpl 20.58kpl 20.58kpl 18.15kpl 18.09kpl

From the table above, one can see that the Creta, in its 1.5-litre petrol avatar, is marginally more frugal than the Kia Seltos of the same spec. It also delivers a significant bit more per litre than the 121hp Honda Elevate. However, the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara, with their 103hp, 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid engines have the best efficiency, followed by the Taigun and Kushaq, with their respective 115hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines. Interestingly, the AWD versions of the Toyota and Maruti (only available in manual form) are still more efficient than the Creta and Seltos, but fall behind the European SUVs.

2024 Hyundai Creta turbo-petrol vs rivals: mileage
Creta 1.5T Seltos 1.5T Grand Vitara Hybrid Hyryder Hybrid Taigun 1.5T Kushaq 1.5T
MT - 17.7kpl - - 18.61kpl 18.6kpl
AT 18.4kpl 17.9kpl 27.97kpl 27.97kpl 19.01kpl 18.86kpl

The Creta is consistently in the middle of the pack here, and is marginally more efficient than the Seltos 1.5 turbo; the Kia does get an iMT option with the turbo-petrol, giving buyers more choice. As before, the Hyryder and Grand Vitara in their 115hp hybrid forms are the most frugal midsize SUVs by far, with the 150hp VW and Skoda giving the least per litre.

2024 Hyundai Creta diesel vs rivals: mileage
Creta 1.5D Seltos 1.5D
MT 21.8kpl 20.7kpl
AT 19.1kpl 19.1kpl

Only the Korean SUVs come with a diesel engine option and they share the same 116hp, 1.5-litre unit. What is interesting to note is that the Creta diesel with its 6-speed manual gives 1.1kpl more than the Seltos diesel with its 6-speed iMT gearbox. The automatic versions have identical ARAI efficiency figures.
