The open-top features a removable Targa-style roof and an integral roll-over hoop, which is described by BMW as a one-off design exercise, but appears almost production-ready. The Bavarian carmaker has suggested that the Concept Skytop could enter production if it receives a positive response.
BMW said that the Concept Skytop offers a combination of dynamics and elegance at the highest level, comparable to the likes of BMW Z8 and BMW 503. The design of the vehicle embodies classic BMW Gran Tourer proportions, with a long bonnet, a cabin set well back, a long wheelbase and a boot that slopes down at the rear.

The car retains the iconic kidney grille with two separate illuminated elements and horizontal slats. The grille is flanked by ultra-thin LED headlights and huge vents in the bonnet. The boot features a distinctive central divider that mirrors the one in the bonnet, and it curves up into a small ducktail spoiler.
On the inside, the Concept Skytop gets the latest generation of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, a fully digital driver’s display, a familiar shifter for the automatic gearbox and a conventional multifunction steering wheel. The cabin is wrapped in brown leather.
BMW Concept Skytop: powertrain
The vehicle gets BMW’s most powerful V8 engine, i.e. the 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged unit that powers the top-end M cars and produces up to 635bhp in its most potent guise. Do note that specifications for the Concept Skytop are yet to be revealed.
