Six months after Bharat NCAP had announced the first results for its crash tests, the road safety organisation is set to reveal a new set of results quite soon. BNCAP has sent out a teaser on its social media hinting the announcement of the next set of results.
- Next BNCAP announcement by May 8, 2024
- Will include more than one car, SUV
Reliable sources who spoke to our sister publication Autocar Professional say that results for the second batch of models tested will be revealed by Wednesday, May 8 2024. The same source has also revelaed that crash test results on models from a number of mainstream car and SUV brands will be announced.
Rahul Bharti, Head of Corporate Affairs, had said at a recent earnings investor call that Maruti Suzuki has submitted three models to BNCAP, and that results were expected soon. All the models are estimated to have achieved "top ratings", said the source cited earlier.
Why the 6-month gap since BNCAP's last announcement?
According to reliable sources, the Maruti Baleno, Grand Vitara, and Brezza, were delivered in January 2023 to the government authorities to be tested. They also passed the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and Central Road Transport Institute testing regimes as early as March 2024.
As the model code of conduct imposed during the general elections had come into effect, no new test announcement has been made. However, government authorities, fearing the programme will run out of steam, have advised the manufacturers not to wait until the code of conduct ends on June 4, and instead go ahead with the result announcement.
