Positioned slightly higher than the Exter and Punch in the market, the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Taisor are 180mm longer than the Hyundai SUV and 168mm longer than the Tata offering. All four SUVs get a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine with a CNG kit, however, the Tata Punch CNG is the only one that gets a 3-cylinder unit as opposed to 4 cylinders seen on the rest. In CNG mode, the Fronx’s and Taisor’s engine makes 78hp – making them the most powerful CNG SUVs in this comparison, while the Punch CNG is the torquiest offering. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard across all.
The Exter CNG was recently updated with a dual-cylinder setup, which makes it the only SUV in India apart from the Punch CNG to offer this technology. This helps free up more boot space as opposed to the single larger cylinder seen on conventional CNG cars.
