KTM 390 Adventure, 390 Enduro global debut at EICMA 2024

KTM will return to the famed EICMA motorcycle show for the first time in five years and it is coming in all guns blazing. The Austrian marque has a litany of new models waiting in the wings, important for the Indian audience are the next-gen 390 Adventure R, 390 Enduro R and the 390 SMC R. The big-bike portfolio is also set to be overhauled and expanded with new models based on the 990 as well as the big-bore 1390 platforms.

  1. 390 Adventure, Enduro, SMC R to use new 399cc motor from Duke
  2. New 990, 1390 models to also be shown
  3. KTM's AMT gearbox will also break cover

KTM’s small-bore off-road-oriented models have been testing for quite a while in India now and we finally have confirmation on what models are coming. This time around, there are 3 bikes - 390 Adventure R, 390 Enduro R and 390 SMC R - the first is a traditional ADV, the second is a road-legal dualsport with 21/18-inch spoke wheels and the third model will be a supermoto with minimal bodywork, resembling the Enduro.

These new bikes will use the same 399cc single-cylinder motor from the Gen 3 390 Duke, rated for 46hp and 39Nm. To suit the different intended purpose of the Adventure and Enduro models, Bajaj will likely use different mapping and gearing, but the SMC R’s engine and drivetrain could be largely similar to the Duke.

Coming to the big bikes, the 990 parallel-twin platform will soon expand with the 990 Duke R and the 990 RC R models. The 990 Duke R will essentially be a souped-up 990 Duke, with higher-specification brakes and suspension, in typical KTM fashion. Meanwhile, the 990 RC R will be KTM’s first foray into the large-capacity sportbike world in nearly a decade. To read more about the KTM 990 RC R, tap HERE.

Then we have the flagship 1390 models - 1390 Super Duke GT, 1390 Super Adventure S, 1390 Super Adventure S EVO and the 1390 Super Adventure R. All these bikes will use the engine from the 1390 Super Duke R as the starting point but the chassis will see revisions to suit each model’s respective character and intended usage. KTM is set to debut a new 8.8-inch TFT display (one of the largest in the two-wheeler realm) with ‘vastly improved UX and UI’ on all these models.

Last but certainly not least, we have KTM’s new AMT gearbox which will break cover at EICMA. Of late, many motorcycle manufacturers have been coming up with their own versions of an automatic gearbox, which eliminates the need to have a physical clutch and gear lever and KTM is the latest to join the bandwagon. Details of this new gearbox are scarce but we did sample Yamaha’s AMT gearbox on the new MT-09 and you can read all about it HERE.
