I have a budget of Rs 10 lakh-12 lakh on-road, and I plan to buy my first car. I’m learning how to drive, so what’s the best option for me? I want a manual transmission and want to use the car long-term, both in the city and on the highway.

Autocar India says: If you are learning to drive, we would suggest your first car be something that’s compact, making it easier for you to place the car. It would also help to have a car that is responsive, has a high seating position, and offers good all-round visibility. Hence, a compact SUV would be a good option. A safe choice would be the Hyundai Venue 1.2 petrol manual, which ticks all the boxes for a beginner driver and is backed by a good aftersales service. You could also explore the Citroën C3 1.2, which has a superb engine, a plush ride, and is very easy to drive. The only issue with the C3 is that its dealer network is weak, and the interior is not very plush or well-equipped.
